About The Artwork
These trees do not bloom by day. Against a deep cobalt and indigo sky — the sky of late dusk or deep night — three black-branched trees erupt in a profusion of pink, teal and lime that glows as though lit from within, as though blossom itself were a source of light.
This is one of the most chromatically arresting works in Prajapati's tree series. The cool, saturated blue ground — ranging from electric cobalt at the upper corners to deep navy at the centre — creates a nocturnal atmosphere against which the hot pink and luminous teal dots register with extraordinary vividness. Each dot carries a bright nucleus of yellow-white or acid green, causing the entire canopy to pulsate and shimmer as the eye moves across it.
To paint trees at night in full flower is to insist on beauty's refusal to observe ordinary hours — this is a garden that has never heard of darkness.
The three tree trunks rise from a vivid strip of hot magenta at the canvas base — a ground line that burns rather than grounds, suggesting not earth but energy, not soil but light. This horizontal blaze of pink anchors the composition while simultaneously intensifying the cool drama of the sky above. It is a device Prajapati handles with instinctive confidence: the contrast between warm base and cool canopy creates a visual tension that keeps the eye moving continuously through the work.
The dot vocabulary here is particularly varied. Pink rings encircle green centres; teal halos surround luminous cores; loose violet and blue marks scatter between the denser clusters like ambient light. The branches themselves — dark, assured, calligraphic — reach upward and outward with the structural authority that anchors all the works in this series, providing the necessary architecture around which the colour can bloom freely.
In its intimacy of scale and its nocturnal drama, this painting offers something rare: the experience of standing in a garden at night, looking up through flowering branches at a sky alive with colour — a moment of pure, uncomplicated wonder.
From Prajapati's tree series: This nocturnal work is the most dramatically contrasted of the three tree canvases, the deep blue sky distinguishing it clearly from the magenta-ground and crimson-ground companions. All three together make a compelling triptych tracing one motif through entirely different emotional climates.
