About The Artwork

This is a painting on fire. Two trees blaze in full crimson canopy, their black branches rising through a smouldering ground of deep burgundy and red — and across their centre, with quiet audacity, a horizontal band of pure rainbow colour cuts like a horizon seen through flame.

Ram Bali Prajapati brings his signature dot-building technique to a radically different register here. Where his blue and gold works evoke cosmos and contemplation, this canvas is all heat, urgency and seasonal fire — the blazing crimson of autumn foliage at its most intense, or perhaps a forest caught in the last light of dusk. Every surface is dense with marks: large and small crimson circles, each ringed with a darker halo, many centred with a luminous gold-white nucleus that causes the whole field to seem internally lit.

The rainbow band does not interrupt the trees — it passes through them, as light passes through everything, indifferent and magnificent.

The compositional masterstroke is that band of horizontal stripes — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet — that bisects the canvas roughly one-third from the top. It is an unexpected intrusion of pure, cool geometry into an otherwise organic and turbulent surface. Rather than disrupting the painting's emotional coherence, it deepens it: the rainbow reads as a horizon, a portal, a reminder that beyond the intensity of the immediate moment, the full spectrum of experience persists.

A second, smaller stripe fragment appears to the right, suggesting that this band is not a device but a structural element — almost architectural — woven into the world of the painting. Together they impose a quiet order on the blazing abundance around them, the way a calm mind holds its ground within great feeling.

A note on technique: The gold-centred dots throughout this work demonstrate Prajapati's layering process at its most refined — each mark is built up in multiple applications, creating genuine relief and a jewel-like depth that photographs only partially capture. This luminosity is best appreciated in person.

Dr Ram Bali Prajapati - Ghaziabad, India

Dr. Rambali Prajapati @rambali.prajapati , a recipient of the National Award, the President’s Award, and the Senior Fellowship Award from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, was born into a modest potter family in the Mau district of Uttar Pradesh. His childhood was devoted to crafting idols and toys of gods and goddesses, a tradition deeply rooted in his family heritage. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in painting from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, and subsequently obtained a PhD in “Art and Art Market” from Chaudhary Charan Singh University. He has created a series of acclaimed paintings on themes such as Music, Human and Nature, and Udaan(‘Flight’). He has also produced popular sculptures on themes like books, schools, and “Life of Stairs.” For the past two years, he has been actively creating sculptures using mineral stones while residing at Kaladham in Greater Noida (Delhi NCR).

With a formal education in painting and a family heritage in clay toy and idol making, the artist’s journey has evolved into a passion for sculpture. After earning a doctorate in painting, his focus shifted to sculpting with semi-precious stones, including Jasper, Labradorite, and Amethyst. Over the past two years, they have collected over 200 mineral stones and developed innovative carving techniques. Their work now includes large-scale sculptures and installations that combine semi-precious stones, wood, and bronze, celebrating the natural beauty and vibrant colors of these materials.
