Ananda Das an internationally recognized illustrious Indian Painter, the son of eminent artist Lakshmi Narayan Das, was born in The City Of Joy , Calcutta . His first art teacher was his father ,a renowned commercial artist .It was his father who through his artistic tips had guided him in the initial days of his career . Mr. Ananda began his training at the Bengal School Of Arts at an young age of fourteen. When aged 18, after realizing the futility of academic instruction he decided to experiment with his work alone thus an emerged his unvanquished unique style winning him innumerable accolades, including several Gold Medals Of Honour . As a painter of several art forms of diverse styles he had received several prestigious scholarships for his ability . Thus emerging out as a notable member of the Calcutta Painters Group . Mr. Ananda Das, starting his career in 1994 has never looked back ever .His works in different medium ,like water colour , acrylic, oil ,charcoal and mix-media .Most of his paintings are based on the realistic and figurative . The " Rickshaw Puller" series and " Varanasi " series are among the notable subjects of his work of art . Varanasi or Banaras being one of the most spiritual cities in India is sought after by the artist, Ananda Das. He captures the divinity of this holy city in his works of art , painting the Beautiful ghats of Varanasi as dreamy in the black and white tone of twilight , capturing the immemorial cacophony from the ghats of this ancient city . On the other hand , he uses the rickshaw as a symbol of harmony between man and his carrier, between purpose and quiet strength .The running feet ,the hastening wheels are a simple proof of what substance, will and staying power can conquer .He also like the play of light and shadow .For that reason he applies charcoal and acrylic to catch the play of light and shadow on black & white basis .He is one of the leading painters of Kolkata . The city of Kolkata with principal identity, the rickshaw pullers have always figured prominently in Ananda’s work, His work began to take on the style and character now associated with his name. Most of Ananda’s work is religious or mystical in expression and romantic in spirit .His early paintings were strongly influenced by the turbulence and political violence of all over the world. Ananda Das boasts a precise, finely executed style that yields an unmistakable visual intensity. He works comfortably in an assortment of media, including oil on canvas, charcoal, mixed media and watercolor. Ananda’s series of paintings, icons and illusion, marked a creative breakthrough for the artist in a number of ways. His work has been exhibited extensively all over the World .He has won a number of awards. Ananda is a teacher as well as a facilitator and painter .He has exhibited in several shows along with group exhibitions in India. His work can be seen in many public and private collections in India and abroad. Ananda Das has exhibited his paintings in Art Galleries of India like Jahangir Art Gallery, French Consulate, Academy Of Fine Arts, and Oberoi Tower. His witty titles are often as important as the paintings themselves, which combine an economy and precision of technique with the markings of a seemingly limitless imagination.
