About The Artwork

From the depths of an oceanic blue, a figure slowly surfaces — not as declaration, but as emergence. Ram Bali Prajapati builds this haunting presence dot by dot, layer by layer, until the human form materialises from within the very fabric of colour itself.

Working entirely in acrylic on a generous 42 × 36 inch canvas, Prajapati employs a pointillist technique of remarkable density. Thousands of individually placed marks — cobalt, cerulean, teal, jade, violet, punctuated by flashes of coral and crimson — accumulate into a shimmering field that simultaneously reveals and conceals. The figure does not sit before a background; it is made of the same substance as everything around it, differentiated only by the subtle orchestration of tone and value.

To look at this painting is to understand that the self is not separate from the world — it is woven into it, particle by particle.

The dominant blue registers across an extraordinary range — from near-black midnight depths to luminous aquamarine — giving the canvas an interior light that seems to pulse and shift as the viewer moves. This is not a flat field but a living atmosphere, more akin to looking through water or dusk air than at a painted surface.

The seated posture of the figure carries a meditative stillness. There is no drama of gesture, no narrative urgency — only presence, only being. It recalls the contemplative figures of Indian classical sculpture, stripped of ornament, reduced to essential form. Prajapati gives us a figure in a state of profound inwardness, dissolved into the world yet unmistakably there.

This work represents one of the most quietly powerful statements in Prajapati's practice — a painting that rewards sustained looking, revealing new relationships of colour and form with every return.

Dr Ram Bali Prajapati - Ghaziabad, India

Dr. Rambali Prajapati @rambali.prajapati , a recipient of the National Award, the President’s Award, and the Senior Fellowship Award from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, was born into a modest potter family in the Mau district of Uttar Pradesh. His childhood was devoted to crafting idols and toys of gods and goddesses, a tradition deeply rooted in his family heritage. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in painting from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, and subsequently obtained a PhD in “Art and Art Market” from Chaudhary Charan Singh University. He has created a series of acclaimed paintings on themes such as Music, Human and Nature, and Udaan(‘Flight’). He has also produced popular sculptures on themes like books, schools, and “Life of Stairs.” For the past two years, he has been actively creating sculptures using mineral stones while residing at Kaladham in Greater Noida (Delhi NCR).

With a formal education in painting and a family heritage in clay toy and idol making, the artist’s journey has evolved into a passion for sculpture. After earning a doctorate in painting, his focus shifted to sculpting with semi-precious stones, including Jasper, Labradorite, and Amethyst. Over the past two years, they have collected over 200 mineral stones and developed innovative carving techniques. Their work now includes large-scale sculptures and installations that combine semi-precious stones, wood, and bronze, celebrating the natural beauty and vibrant colors of these materials.
