About The Artwork

Two trees intertwine in this quietly intimate canvas — their branches crossing and entwining in the centre of the composition, their canopies merging into a single shared profusion of teal, pink and luminous gold against a warm, dusty golden-khaki ground.

Where the other works in Prajapati's tree series place their subjects against intensely saturated colour fields — blazing magenta, deep cobalt, burning crimson — this painting breathes differently. The warm, muted earth-tone ground is closer to the colour of aged parchment or dried grass, and it gives the vivid dot canopies above a different kind of resonance: more ancient, more grounded, as though these trees have stood for a very long time.

Two trees, one canopy — this is a painting about the beauty of what grows together, of lives whose branches can no longer be told apart.

The composition is structured around the central crossing of the two trunks — a gentle, almost tender X that anchors everything above it. From this junction the branches fan outward and upward in all directions, and the dot canopy fills the upper three-quarters of the canvas with extraordinary density and variety. Teal circles ringed with darker halos, hot pink marks centred with lime or gold, scattered violet and blue notes between — the surface rewards the closest attention while remaining completely legible from across a room.

A single large luminous dot — pale yellow, clearly distinct from all the others — sits near the top left of the composition like a sun or a moon just emerging. It is a small detail that changes everything: suddenly the painting has a light source, a time of day, an atmosphere. Morning, perhaps, or the last light before dusk.

The lower register of the canvas is looser and more gestural — flicks and splashes of colour against the raw, warm ground — giving the base of the painting a sense of earth and roots, of things not yet fully formed, from which the blossoming above has grown. It is a painting with a clear sense of below and above, of roots and flowers, of where things come from and where they reach.

The most intimate of the tree series: The intertwining of two trunks gives this work a relational quality absent from the others — making it a natural choice for spaces where companionship and connection are felt. It pairs beautifully with any of the series companions or stands with quiet authority alone.

Dr Ram Bali Prajapati - Ghaziabad, India

Dr. Rambali Prajapati @rambali.prajapati , a recipient of the National Award, the President’s Award, and the Senior Fellowship Award from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, was born into a modest potter family in the Mau district of Uttar Pradesh. His childhood was devoted to crafting idols and toys of gods and goddesses, a tradition deeply rooted in his family heritage. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in painting from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, and subsequently obtained a PhD in “Art and Art Market” from Chaudhary Charan Singh University. He has created a series of acclaimed paintings on themes such as Music, Human and Nature, and Udaan(‘Flight’). He has also produced popular sculptures on themes like books, schools, and “Life of Stairs.” For the past two years, he has been actively creating sculptures using mineral stones while residing at Kaladham in Greater Noida (Delhi NCR).

With a formal education in painting and a family heritage in clay toy and idol making, the artist’s journey has evolved into a passion for sculpture. After earning a doctorate in painting, his focus shifted to sculpting with semi-precious stones, including Jasper, Labradorite, and Amethyst. Over the past two years, they have collected over 200 mineral stones and developed innovative carving techniques. Their work now includes large-scale sculptures and installations that combine semi-precious stones, wood, and bronze, celebrating the natural beauty and vibrant colors of these materials.
