About The Artwork
Snails are often depicted on statues of the Buddha to represent the sacrifice of snails that climbed up the Buddha's robe and cooled his skin with their mucus. These snails are now considered martyrs.

Snail's cool and damp bodies helped maintain the Buddha's meditation for hours. The Snail became parched due to the heat rays. Later in the evening, when Buddha stood from the meditation, he learned that he was wearing a cap of 108 snails, all of whom had given their lives to make a distraction-free environment for Buddha's path to enlightenment.

Uttam Bhattacharya - Kolkata, India

I do believe that humans are the most beautiful creation of God. Their myriad of expressions, their joys, sorrows and their dreams always fascinate me, intrigue me and fill my mind with wonder and awe. Through my painting, I try to capture my fascination in my own way. In my painting, I intentionally deviate from the realistic portrayal of figures in order to capture and bring to life their world of dreams, agonies and ecstasies in my canvas. The characters I create are from the surrealistic DREAM world. They have dreamy closed eyes-transporting the viewers to their own mystic land of DREAM.

I take help of dark colours to capture their pain and bright colour over it to capture their dreams and their hopes of finding endless possibilities within despair and deep trouble. Through my painting I always try to portray the rhythm of life- brightness in the middle of impregnable dark, joy in the midst of sorrow and hope amidst desperation.

My educational qualifications are something different from my profession and passion, still I love to share
